Bryant Gumbel and his early life and childhood days
Bryant’s full name is Bryant Charles Gumbel. He was born on 29 September 1948 in New Orleans, Louisiana. His parents were Rhea LeCesne and Richard Dunbar Gumbel. His father was a Judge and his mother a city clerk. Bryant nationality is American and his ethnicity is Louisiana Creole (African and French). He has an elder brother named Gregg Gumbel.
Bryant studied at the De La Salle Institute in Chicago and was raised in the Southern part of Chicago. He completed his graduation from the Bates College in the year 1970 and holds a degree in Russian history.

Bryant Gumbel and his career
In the start, Bryant worked as an editor for Black Sports Magazine and he joined in 1971 but left the following year. In October 1972, he began his TV career. His first job was as a sportscaster for KNBC-TV on the outskirts of LA.
Bryant Gumbel and NBC
In the fall of 1975, Bryant was recruited by NBC Sports and became a co-host of the National Football League pre-game show called Grandstand along with Jack Buck. From 1975 onwards he was the host of several numerous sporting events such as Major League Baseball, NFL, and college football. He left in January 1982 but did do the 1988 Summer Olympics coverage for NBC when he reported from Seoul and in 1990 also worked for NBC for their PGA Tour.
He told the football viewers during the NFL playoff game:
“If you didn’t like this football game then you don’t like football!”
Bryant Gumbel and The Today Show
Bryant was the chief sports reporter for Today Show and used to be a contributor twice weekly. He also anchored a series called Sportsman of the Week in which he talked about rising athletes. Bryant assisted in bringing up the ratings of the show and he also earned many Emmy awards for it. He resigned from the show on 3 January 1997.

Bryant Gumbel and CBS
Bryant then joined CBS and hosted the new prime news magazine show called Public Eye with Bryant Gumbel. He also hosted several other shows on the channel and was ABC’s The View’s special guest moderator. He was also on the show The Weather Man. His net worth is estimated to be $ 25 million.
Bryant Gumbel and his personal life
Byrant was earlier married to June Baranco since 1 December 1973 and has two children with her. The kids are son Bradley (born 1978) and daughter Jillian (born 1984). They used to at that time resided in semi-rural Waccabuc which is in the north of New York City. He divorced June on 21 August 2001 and married Hilary Quinlan on 24 August 2002. Hilary is a Goldman Sachs analyst. Bryant was operated for a malignant tumor near his lungs in October 2009.
In 2003, he was able to lose 55 lbs and maintained it. His weight loss was discussed and attributed to his switch to a healthy lifestyle.
