Dale Jarrett was born on 26th November 1956 in Conover, North Carolina, the United States. His parents are Ned and Martha. His father, Ned competed in the NASCAR Grand National Division between 1953-1966 and won two series championships in 1961 and 1965. He has an older brother named Glenn and a younger sister named Patti.

Dale Jarrett- Childhood, Education

He traveled across the Southern United States with his father’s race during his childhood. He began playing golf by the age of 12 and later began playing basketball, football, and baseball during his school time at Newton-Conover High School, Newton, North Carolina. He also became the school’s athlete of the year as a senior. After graduation, he started working at Hickory Motor Speedway which was managed by his father.

Dale Jarrett- Earlier Career

He began his professional car racing in the Limited Sportsman Division at Hickory in April 1977 and his vehicle named Chevrolet Nova was built by Jimmy Newsome and Andy Petree. He started the race from the last position and finished in ninth place. After that, he began competing in the Limited Sportsman Division for two years.

1982-1991

He participated in the 1982 NASCAR Budweiser Late Model Sportsman Series for car owner Horace Isenhower. After that first race, his golden age was waiting around the corner and most of his races were breathtaking.  In addition, he seemed on the verge of breaking a new record.

He competed in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series in 1984 and had an average finishing time of 24.67. He finished seventh overall in the standings during the 1990-91 racing season. It was during this period that he won his first Winston Cup race at the Michigan International Speedway in 1991.

1992-2008

During a stretch of racing in the 90s, he had impressive finishes, winning the Daytona 500 and making it into the Top 5 a total of 13 times. In 1998, he won three races and finished second in two races, which helped Jarrett place third in the overall drivers’ ranking that year.

His 1998 achievement was replicated in 2000 when he won the Daytona 500 for the third time. In 2001, he won more races to clinch the no. 1 standing for a while. However, he suffered a bad crash during a race in Kansas after his fourth win. His 2003 season was of average performance, having posted 5 top-10 finishes. He also had another crash in that year. During the peak of his career, he won 4 out of 36 races with 12 top-five finishes and an average finishing time of 13.94.

He retired from points racing after the 2008 Food City 500, turning the No. 44 Toyota ride to David Reutimann. His last race was the All-Star race in May 2008 and then he joined ESPN’s NASCAR coverage full-time as a booth announcer.
