He was born on October 19, 1977, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to mother Geneviève Robert and father Ivan Reitman, also a director, producer.
His sisters Catherine Reitman is an actress, producer, writer, and Caroline Reitman is a nurse.
He joined Harvard-Westlake School, where he was a high jumper, graduating in 1995. After that, he joined the Skidmore College for a major in pre-med studies but transferred to the University of Southern California (USC) to major in English/Creative Writing.
