He appeared in the school production of Grease after which people suggested him to attend drama school. While attending the Queen Margaret University of Edinburgh, he came to know about Blue Peter looking for a new presenter.
He took his interview in London and made his first appearance on the show on 25 June 1999. Baker went on presenting on many shows during his career like Countryfile summer diaries, Open Country for Radio 4, Animal Rescue Squad, One man and his dog, The one show, City Hospital, Crufts, the gift, Baker also provided BBC commentary for the gymnastics in 2012 Olympics with Claudia Winkleman.
