Ranallo was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 19. He suffered from this condition after his close friend Michael Kanzen died at the age of 19 from a heart attack.

Mauro Ranallo began his career as an announcer and manager at the age of just 16 after being offered a job by All-Star Wrestling. The program ended in the year 1989 and he started his job as a disc jockey for Abbotsford, British Columbia.

From 1999 to 2000, he served as the commentator for the Stampede Wrestling TV show in Calgary. In 2003, Mauro was one of the MMA fans who joined voices for Pride Fighting Championships PPV broadcasts in North America till October 2006.
