Max Holloway was born on December 4, 1991, in Waianae, Hawaii, United States. His birth name is Jerome-Max Kelii Holloway. He was born to father Brian Holloway, while his mother is unknown. His father was a football player and his mother was working in the government office.
He joined Waianae High School and started learning kickboxing and graduated from there in 2010. In addition, he took training from Tactical Strength and Conditioning, Gracie Technics Honolulu and Legacy Muay Thai.
