Vikas Khanna was born on 14th November 1971, in Amritsar, India to parents Davinder(father) and Bindu Khanna(mother). Born with misaligned feet, Khanna wasn’t able to run until he was 13 years of age. He was given inspiration by his grandmother who loved to cook. As of 2019, his age is 48. He has two siblings, a brother named Nishant Khanna and a sister named Radhika Khanna.
Talking about his education, he graduated from the Manipal Academy of Higher Education in the year 1991. Moreover, he received an honorary doctorate at GD Goenka University for his outstanding work in culinary art philanthropy, altruism and humanitarianism, and also his international reach as a chef. Vikas started his career by working for the Taj Hotels, Welcome group, Oberoi group, and Leela Group of Hotels.
He also had worked at Salaam Bombay and The Café at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York before eventually joining ‘Junoon’, an upscale Indian restaurant in Manhattan. The restaurant has received six consecutive Michelin stars since 2011. Since then, Khanna has successfully worked with some of the most influential chefs of the world including Gordon Ramsay, Bobby Flay, Eric Ripert, and Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
In 2006, Vikas featured in a TV show for the first time when Gordon Ramsay invited him to ‘Kitchen Nightmares’ as an Indian cuisine specialist. In 2011, he hosted the second season of MasterChef India, an Indian series based on the original British version. Since then, he has been hosting all the seasons of the show. Moreover, he has also hosted four seasons of the show ‘Twist of Taste’.
He also produced the documentary, ‘Holy Kitchens’, ‘Kitchens of Gratitude’, and directed ‘The Last Color’.
Khanna is also a talented author. He authored ‘The Spice Story of India’, ‘Modern India Cooking’, ‘Utsav’, and ‘Flavors First’.
